University – Rosedale has over 100 benches registered on municipal property. That’s not very much for a ward this size and about 25% of them are in direct sunlight the whole day. With the climate crisis only getting worse we need a way to protect our greenspaces, and ourselves, from the effects of the sun. Shade can be a huge benefit to us wether on the sidewalk or in our parks. Planting trees and designing benches and park equipment that provide more shade can help prevent sun damage and avoid scorching benches and playground equipment. Let’s enjoy the time we can spend outside before winter forces us all back indoors.
